Frequently Asked Questions

About Tulsi

What is Holy Basil (Tulsi)?

Holy Basil, also known as Tulsi, is an aromatic herb from the mint family. It has been treasured for centuries in traditional Indian households for its warm, clove-like aroma and distinctive character.

How is your Holy Basil grown?

We grow ours naturally on our small family farm in Pine Creek, Bundaberg, Queensland. We don't use synthetic pesticides or herbicides — just healthy soil, sunshine and plenty of hands-on care.

What does it taste like?

Peppery and slightly sweet, with a clove-and-mint warmth that lingers. It is gentler when brewed as tea and more punchy when used fresh in cooking.

Is Tulsi caffeine-free?

Yes. Tulsi is naturally caffeine-free, making it a popular choice for an herbal tea at any time of day.

How do I brew Tulsi tea?

Use 2-3 teaspoons of dried Tulsi per cup. Pour over freshly boiled water, cover and steep for 5–7 minutes, or longer for a stronger brew.

Covering the cup while it brews helps retain the tea's natural aroma.

How should I store it?

Keep dried Tulsi in an airtight container away from light, heat and moisture. Stored well, the dried leaf can retain its aroma for around 12 months.

Can I drink Tulsi tea every day?

Tulsi can be enjoyed as a herbal tea as part of your everyday routine. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or taking medication, we recommend speaking with your doctor, midwife or other qualified health professional before use.

Can I use Tulsi products during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

We recommend speaking with your doctor, midwife or other qualified health professional before using Tulsi products during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Safety information may vary between tea, powder and concentrated products such as essential oils.

Is it the same as the basil I cook with?

No. Sweet basil is the one commonly used in pesto and Mediterranean cooking. Holy Basil (Tulsi) is a different species, with a spicier, more aromatic profile, and is commonly used in teas and traditional preparations.
